Dengue virus revisits Karachi; 16 new cases reported

KARACHI: Dengue viral fever has re-emerged in Karachi as 16 new cases have been reported in just one week, said Dengue Surveillance Cell here Tuesday. According to Provincial Focal Person for Dengue Surveillance Cell Sindh, a total of 130 dengue fever cases have been reported in Sindh province out of which 122 occurred in Karachi this year.

A total of 14 dengue patients were discharged from hospitals after treatment across Sindh, while four affected are still admitted to hospitals. Around 10 new cases of dengue affected patients were reported in Sindh. They were admitted to different hospitals.

The sources said poor sanitary conditions and lack of proper fumigation are amongst the major factors behind spread of dengue fever in Karachi. They feared that more dengue cases might be reported in coming months if the government fails to take proper preventive measures.
