QUETTA: Director General provincial Disaster Management Authority Hafiz Abdul Basit has said so far 271 deaths have been confirmed in quake hit areas of Balochistan. Of these 228 were killed in Awaran and 43 in Kech district. Survey to assess men and material losses were underway.
Briefing International and local NGOs representatives here Wednesday, DG PDMA said 21 thousand families were affected and 21 thousand houses collapsed in earthquake hit areas.
He said provincial government started relief activities immediately after earthquake and district administrations were issued directed for immediate assistance and rescue of affected people. It is being implemented.
A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary reviewed situation created due to earthquake and losses and evolved a course of action for relief activities. He reached Awaran by helicopter this morning and besides review of the situation issued orders on the spot. It has accelerated relief activities.
DG PDMA told that 1600 tents, 1300 food packs, 300 blankets, 600 plastic sheets, 300 mosquito nets, and 300 jerricans were sent to Awaran by 19 trucks. He said a truck load of medicines and mobile health unit has also been sent to the affected areas. A team of 26 doctors and 16 paramedics along with 18 ambulances has reached Awaran while 18 ambulances of Edhi Foundation have also reached the area.
He said Pak Army medical teams has also arrived along with medicines. He said Government of Punjab has announced to give 5000 tents, 5000 food packets. Sindh government was sending two truck load of medicines in the area.
He said an emergency control room has been established in PDMA which was working round the clock.
