ECP: 90% results of National, Provincial assemblies received: Ishtiak Ahmad

Islamabad: Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad Khan has said that peaceful elections were held across the country except some constituencies. He said that 90 % results of the National and Provincial Assemblies Elections have been received and hoped that the remaining would be received till tonight..

Talking to media persons in Islamabad on Monday he said that Election Commission has already ordered re-polling in 43 polling stations of NA250 Karachi. He said the re polling will be held within next 10 days.

He said District Returning Officers‚ Returning Officers‚ Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh and District Police Officers have been asked to submit reports on rest of the constituencies of Karachi till today evening. He said in the light of these reports the Election Commission will take further decision.

Secretary Election Commission said that if anyone has any solid proof of grave irregularities or violation of law during the polling from across the country‚ he can send it to the Election Commission and the commission will consider action under Peoples Representative Act‚ 1976.

Ishtiak Ahmad Khan said that after the polling the next phase of election petitions will begin soon. He said for these purpose fourteen election tribunals have already been set throughout the country. Of these‚ five were established in Punjab and three each in Sindh‚ Balochistan and KhyberPakhtunkhwa.

He said retired Sessions Judges have been appointed in these tribunals. The tribunals will decide the petitions within one hundred and twenty days.
