ECP: NADRA directed to prepare software for verification of thumb impressions

Islamabad: The Election Commission of Pakistan ECP has directed NADRA to prepare software for verification of thumb impressions of voters if required by Election Tribunals.

Talking to media persons in Islamabad on Monday Secretary Election Commission Ishtiak Ahmad Khan said that NADRA would verify thumb impressions only if directed by the Commission and Tribunals.

He said the Election Tribunals will start working next week. He said that Commission has already established fourteen Election Tribunals. Of these five are in Punjab‚ and three each in Sindh‚ Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik said they already have the capability to verify thumb impressions but it would be expanded to verify five hundred thousand thumb impressions per day within two weeks.
