Energy PM directs immediate release of Rs.22.5 billion for power generation

Islamabad: Prime Minister Justice R Mir Hazar Khan Khoso has directed the Ministry of Finance to immediately release Rs. 22.5 billion to the Ministry of Water and Power for provision of fuel to the thermal power plants.

As decided by the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Finance will forthwith release Rs. 15 billion for provision of fuel while another sum of Rs. 7.5 billion would also be released subsequently on immediate basis to generate additional power to further reduce the gap between demand and supply.

The direction was given by the Prime Minister while chairing an emergency meeting at the PM’s House on Monday to review the energy situation in the country.

The Prime Minister convened this meeting in the backdrop of increased power outages and sufferings of the people.

The Prime Minister said that his government is committed to assuage the sufferings of the people and to maintain the wheels of industry in motion.

The Prime Minister further directed the Ministries of Water and Power, Finance and Petroleum to maintain close liaison and ensure maximum power generation to minimize loadshedding.

The meeting was attended by, Ministers for Water and Power, Petroleum and Natural Resources and Advisor on Finance. The Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Secretaries of Finance, Water and Power and Petroleum Ministries and Chairman WAPDA also attended the meeting.
