Estonia expresses interest in energy, ICT sectorsMarch 10, 2014
Islamabad: Special Representative of Estonia to Pakistan Mr. Vaino Reinart on Monday expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s energy and ICT sectors which have great investment potential.
Pakistan is emerging as an investment ground for global energy sector companies while it remains a gateway to Afghan market, he said while talking to Vice President FPCCI Munawar Mughal and Chairman Coordination FPCCI Faisal Saleem Rehman.
Mr. Vaino Reinart who is on his first-ever visit to Pakistan said that Estonia is world leader in ICT while wind power is a sector in which it has excellent expertise. Pakistan is in a good position to exploit wind and solar energy which is in abundance here, he added.
He said that trade volume between the two countries is not satisfactory which can be increased by the governments and business communities of the both countries.
An official delegation from Pakistan would soon visit Estonia for holding high-level meeting in which avoidance of double taxation will figure prominently, the envoy said.
There is room for development in the area of economic relations, culture, education and tourism, said Reinart adding that his country has been exporting mineral products, metal and metal products, paper, paper pulp, and paper and cardboard scraps while importing textiles and leather goods.
Speaking on the occasion, Munawar Mughal and Faisal Saleem Rehman thanked Estonia for the humanitarian aid during floods and earthquake.
They said that single country exhibitions and exchange of trade delegations would help boost bilateral trade.
Munawar Mughal said that Pakistan is fortunate to have high wind speeds near urban centres. In Balochistan and Sindh, sufficient wind exists to power every coastal village in the country while the corridor between Gharo and Keti Bandar could produce 50 thousand megawatts of electricity.
This surplus wind energy potential offers matchless opportunities for investors, said Munawar Mughal adding that Pakistan has a potential to generate over 2.3 million megawatts electricity per annum through solar power which must be exploited.
