Extortion case: TTP men remanded to police custody

KARACHI: An Anti-Terrorism Court-I on Monday remanded two militants of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in police custody till December 8 in extortion case.

Police produced both suspects before the ATC-I judge under tight security. ATC-I Judge was informed that Mohammad Kashif and Mohammad Irfan were part of a gang of extortionists.

According to the prosecution, the suspects demanded RS2,00,000 protection money from one Mrs Zainab Bibi in February 2014. The accused had told the complainant that in case of failure to pay, she would be deprived of her son.

The case FIR No, (54/2014) was lodged on Feb 18 under Sections 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion), 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 of the Anti-terrorism Act (ATA) 1997 at the Sachal police.
