Falling standard: Students of private schools bag all top positions in Matric examJuly 22, 2013
Tando Muhammad Khan, Sindh: Corruption, mismanagement and political interference have marred the performance of the government run schools. The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Hyderabad has announced the result of class-X science group and all top ten positions are obtained by the candidates of private schools.
There are 9 districts under the BISE Hyderabad. As per the data of Reform Support Unit of Sindh Education and Literacy Department in Badin district there are 53 government high schools, in Hyderabad there number is 83, in Nawabshah 53, in Dadu 41, in Jamshoro 34, in Matiari and Tando Allahyar 34 each, in Tando Muhammad Khan 25 and in Thatta district 61.
However, the sources said this data is not updated, as presently there are more than 425 government high schools in these 9 districts. Moreover, these are scores of government run higher secondary schools in these districts. The teachers of government schools have better qualification, better salary and better working conditions that the teachers of the private schools but still the result of the government run schools is dismal. The last government also gave the government teachers benefit of timescale and their average salary is 200 to 300 percent of the salary of a private school teacher. In the recent Matriculation result of the BISE Hyderabad the top ten positions were shared by 18 male and female students, none of them belonged to any government school.
Ironically, the children of not only the senior officers of the Sindh education and literacy department go to the private schools, but even the government school teachers serving in different districts also send their children to the private schools.
