Four shopkeepers jailed, several fined

Karachi: Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said on Wednesday that four shopkeepers had been jailed and Rs 77,900 fine was imposed on several others for selling goods at exorbitant rates and violating government commodity rates.

Presiding over a meeting at his office here, the commissioner informed that deputy and assistant commissioners had taken actions against 53 people selling goods at high prices in different areas of the metropolis.

He said that deputy commissioners of five districts and assistant commissioners of 28 subdivisions of the city were taking steps against the shopkeepers selling commodities at exorbitant rates.

The commissioner directed all deputy commissioners to ensure display of goods rate list at clear place in the shops and ensure sale of the commodities at rates fixed by the government.
