Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has affirmed its commitment to make the province completely free of polio virus and the anti polio drive will be kept continued till the whole province is cleared from polio. This motif came after attack on a polio team at Badhbher near Peshawar on Tuesday.

According to an official statement, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has severely condemned the attack on the polio team and it was stated that the anti polio drive was a programme of the government of Pakistan on which Rs. 900 million were being spent annually.

It was also stated that in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 0.9 million children were being provided protection from this fatal virus and it is very sordid that in the whole world only in three countries i.e. Afghanistan, Nigeria and Pakistan polio virus had been detected.

Besides other reasons behind the polio virus detection in these countries was the negative propaganda being spread against the polio vaccination drive, the statement added. It said as a result those children who were not vaccinated against polio were suffered.

The official statement said that the presence of polio virus was not only a matter of concern for the government but also resulted in getting shame from other countries as well.

It stated that it was not only the duty of parents but every citizen to protect the children from polio disease. To create hindrances in the way of anti polio campaign was not in the benefit of the people and the state, the statement said.

According to the statement the government would not show weakness in taking anti polio drives towards completion and the parents should cooperate with the polio teams in administering anti polio drops to their kids. It was called upon all the citizens to extend their possible support to the polio teams and allow them to take the drops to all the corners of the province so that the province could be made polio free zone.
