Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi ameer Muhammad Hussain Mehanti has asked the government to stop Lyari from becoming a Beirut.

Talking to people during his visit to different areas of Lyari here on Thursday, he blamed the previous government of Pakistan Peoples Party PPP for fanning gang war and crime culture in Lyari.

During his visit, Mehanti met with the members of business community and the affected families whose near and dear ones lost lives in firing incidents in the area. He also distributed relief goods and cash assistance among the bereaved families.

Mehanti charged that the PPP government has just provided lawlessness and killings to the Lyariites, adding the PPP rulers always give lip service but take no steps to restore peace in the area.

He regretted that the present provincial government has not yet any step towards restoration of peace in Lyari. He said deteriorated law and order situation in Lyari has compelled people to migrate from this living hell.

On the occasion, Mehanti expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved families and assured them full support of his party. He also visited the home of Khatoon Zulaikha, 52 who gunned down by armed men in Lyari.

Condemning the performance of LEAs officials, Mehanti alleged that the LEAs officials are patronizing the criminal elements in Lyari.

He said that the JI leadership will not leave the Lyariites alone in this crucial time, and raise a strong voice of them at every platform.

He demanded of the Interior Minister to take effective measures to restore a lasting peace in Lyari.
