Hajj 2018 Statistics: 2.37 million pilgrims perform Hajj

The General Authority for Statistics (GaStat) announced the results of 1439H Hajj statistics on Monday.

The total number of pilgrims who came to perform Haj reached 2,371,675, of whom 1,758,722 pilgrims are from outside the Kingdom, while the number of domestic pilgrims reached 612,953, according to the latest report of the General Authority of Statistics, released on Monday evening. The number of male pilgrims reached 1,327,127 while women accounted for 1,044,548.

Among the total number of foreign pilgrims, those from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states stood at 34,140 and that makes up 1.9 percent, and the number of pilgrims from the Arab countries, except the GCC states, reached 395,410 and this figure represents 22.5 percent. According to the report, the number of pilgrims from Asian countries, except the Arab States, reached 1,049,496 that makes up 59.7 percent while the number of pilgrims of African countries, except the Arab countries, have reached 166,083, constituting 9.5 percent, and the number of pilgrims from the European countries stood at 88,601, representing five percent and the number of pilgrims of North and South America and Australia countries account for 24,992 and that constitutes 1.4 percent.

Moreover, 1,656,936 pilgrims who came from outside Saudi Arabia arrived through airports, 85,623 arrived through land ports, and 16,163 pilgrims arrived through sea ports.

GaStat report also showed the arrival of foreign pilgrims to the Kingdom after the beginning of the Hajj season. A total of 557,282 pilgrims came from outside the Kingdom during the period between Dhul Qada 1 and 18 and 744,903 pilgrims between 19-29 of the same month. A total of 456,537 pilgrims arrived during the time period from 1 to 8 of Dhul Hijjah.

The total number of domestic pilgrims reached 612, 953 this year. The number of pilgrims arrived from the cities and governorates of Saudi Arabia reached 239,962, while 372,991 were from Makkah, while 401,217 of the pilgrims were non-Saudi pilgrims, and 211, 736 are Saudi pilgrims.

As for the number of the labor force of entities that provided their services to pilgrims from all sectors, the numbers of governmental entities’ labor force reached more than 287,300 persons representing some governmental and private entities which participated in providing more than 215 main services and sub-services. Supervision and follow-up services were provided by 7,310 male and female supervisors from 6 entities.

Public services were provided by 192,254 employees from 19 different entities, whereas health services were provided by 32,579 employees from 3 entities. Furthermore, the number of the labor force in transportation and post services, as well as logistic services (shipping, post and supply) that Saudi Arabia provides to pilgrims reached 47,765 employees working in seven entities, while ICT services (Information and communication technology) were provided by 7,411 employees from 4 different entities.
