IGP orders by-election security in Sindh

KARACHI: Inspector General of Police IGP Sindh, Shahid Nadeem Baloch, has issued directives for keeping ready police commandoes trained under antiterrorism, anti-riots and reserve platoons so as to make extraordinary security arrangements for upcoming bye elections.

The police security strategy should also be made strong by using all available resources for protection to the lives and properties of people, he said. Sindh police spokesperson informed that on the directives of IGP Sindh, the bye election monitoring cell has been set up at Central Police Office. The directives have also been issued to take steps for enforcing bans under section 144 in view of by-election security across Sindh, besides instructing police officers and personnel for making all comprehensive security arrangements. The instruction has also been issued to ensure implementation of Election Commission orders and code of conduct.”

IGP Sindh has also directed to deploy additional police force and police commandoes at sensitive polling stations for bye election. “The parking of vehicles should be ensured at distance from the polling stations while technical sweeping and clearance of parking areas and polling stations should be made.”

It was also directed that all SHOs should be assigned duties to visit polling stations. The police picket and armed deployment along with checking should be also be ensured at entry and exit points of districts.
