Rabat The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) strongly condemned the twin coordinated terrorist attacks targeting two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch during Friday prayers.

According to New Zealand authorities, at least 40 people were killed and dozens of others seriously injured when gunmen — including an Australian right-wing extremist — opened fire inside the al Noor mosque on Deans Avenue and the Linwood mosque on Linwood Avenue. Both mosques are in Christchurch’s city center.

ISESCO said in a statement Friday that this heinous act of terrorism is a crime against humanity and an ugly manifestation of Islamophobia, carried out by extremist racial groups, that the international community must condemn and its perpetrators must be punished.

The Morocco-based Organization called for solidarity with Muslims in New Zealand and expressed confidence in the measures to be taken by the New Zealand authorities to punish the terrorists and protect mosques and Muslims on its territory.
