JI dismisses newly passed LG bill

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami JI has rejected newly passed local government system bill by Pakistan People’s Party and other political parties in Sindh Assembly.

Jamaat-e-Islami JI Karachi Chief Muhammad Hussain Mehanti said that the provincial government did not hold any consultation with JI leadership before presenting the said LG Bill in Sindh Assembly. “Despite the fact that the people had elected JI mayor for two times and City Nazim for once, the provincial government did not contact JI in the formulation of new LG draft”, Mehanti added.

He expressed these views while chairing a meeting of the JI leaders at Idara-e-Noor Haq. The JI leaders among JI Karachi General Secretary Naseem Siddiqui, Naib Ameers Barjees Ahmed, Raja Arif Sultan, Dr Wasay Shakir, Nasrullah Shajih, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, Assistant Secretary Muslim Pervez, Ali Muhammad, Secretary Information Zahid Askari and others were also present on the occasion.

In the meeting, Mehanti said that the powers and authorities, in the systems of entire world are transfer to the third tier of the government i.e. city government, however, the process is totally opposite in Pakistan.

Highlighting the present LG bill, JI Karachi Chief said that the PPP government had transferred the Karachi Water and Sewerage Board KWSB and Karachi Building Control Authority KBCA into provincial government while education, health, master plan and works & services departments are also being shifted at provincial level.

“It is an conspiracy to shift powers and authorities from City District Government to Sindh government”, he added.
