JI opposes new local govt law

Karachi: Jamaat-e-Islami JI has rejected the newly passed Local Government law, terming it a violation of the Article 140A of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Former City Nazim Karachi and a senior leader of Jamaat-e-Islami JI, Naimatullah Khan Advocate expressed these views while addressing a press conference at Idara-e-Noor Haq here on Thursday.

Khan termed the new law against the spirit of the constitution, as there the concept of a third tier of the government in the Constitution, having financial and administrative powers.

He said in the new law the Karachi Water & Sewerage Board KWSB and Karachi Building Control Authority have also given in the control of Minister for Local Bodies, which tantamount to an unjust act with the people and the elected representatives of the city.

He further informed that the provincial government did not hold any consultation with JI leadership before presenting the said LG Bill in Sindh Assembly.
