KARACHI: The sit-in of Jamaat-e-Islami JI against what it called unprecedented rigging in Karachi polls continued at Sharae Faisal near Nursery here on Thursday, demanding re-elections in Karachi and Hyderabad under army supervision.

It was the sixth consecutive JI sit-in at different areas of the city against the polls rigging in the elections. A large number of JI workers, supporters and sympathizers including women and children attended the sit-in.

The participants chanted slogans against Election Commission of Pakistan ECP and demanded re-elections in Karachi and Hyderabad. They raised placards, posters and banners inscribed with “Namanzoor, namanzoor fake elections namanzoor, “fake ECP namanzoor” and “we want re-elections, we want re-elections”.

The JI leaders while addressing the participants said that we have rejected the fake elections and demand re-elections under the supervision of army in entire Karachi and Hyderabad. They further said that the JI leadership would compel the caretaker government and ECP to conduct re-polling in entire city under army supervision, as the people are with them.

They were of the view that the ECP had disappointed the people. “The sit-ins of political and religious parties will continue and a joint strategy will soon be formulated to extend the protest campaign”, they added. The party men appealed to the media to report facts without feeling pressure and telecast the coverage of the protest.
