Amman (OIC-UNA) Jordan’s custodianship of Jerusalem’s holy sites is firm and historically entrenched, and any attempt to circumvent that is bound to inflame the sensibilities of Arabs and Muslims around the world,” said Jordanian Lower House Speaker Atef Tarawneh as he received British Ambassador to Jordan Edward Oakden on Sunday.

Tarawneh noted that his country attaches great importance to the Palestinian cause and believes that the Hashemite custodianship is the legitimate guardianship of Jerusalem’s holy shrines.

He pointed out that Jerusalem is facing waves of settlements, in addition to recurrent Israeli violations against Palestine and its people which would lead to extremism and terrorism, according to Petra news.

The Jordanian Lower House Speaker also said the legislature had made significant steps to have an effective role among various global and regional parliamentary organizations.

For his part, Oakden said his country was keen to develop and promote its relations with Jordan, highlighting the importance of increased international assistance to Amman.

He also noted the importance of investment in Jordan and the private sector’s role in attracting further investments to the Kingdom.
