KCCI, ACP join hands for image building of PakistanSeptember 1, 2013
Karachi: Karachi Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KCCI) and Arts Council of Pakistan resolved for joint efforts to promote the positive and strong image of Pakistan in the countries around the globe.
This agreement was reached between KCCI’s Acting President Shamim A. Firpo and the President of Arts Council Ahmed Shah in the presence of Chairman Businessmen Group Siraj Kassam Teli who presided the meeting of KCCI and Arts Council at Karachi Chamber. Speaking on this occasion, Chairman Businessmen Group and Former President KCCI Siraj Kassam Teli stated that at present the burning issue was the law and order situation in Karachi particularly and Pakistan in general.
He stated that to restore peace in Karachi, he as Chairman BMG was demanding since last many years that all the political stakeholders must sit together to bring peace and control precarious law and order situation in Karachi. Now the sitting Government under the Prime Ministership of Mian Nawaz Sharif had realized this fact and has took the initiative to bring all the stakeholders on one page to maintain law and order situation in Karachi.
In view of present bad law and order he said that he in various meetings suggested that the Government should allow licenced weapon to every citizen for his safety and security so that the criminal may refrain from any illegal activities fearing deterrence. He commented that the good and bad thinking persons are present in all the segments of the society.
He stated that he foresee positive change in the society in the next few years where the dishonest elements will be replaced by the good and efficient persons. He also appreciated the efforts of Shamim Firpo to promote business and public service.
He also assured Ahmed Shah, President, Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi Chamber’s best support in the common aim to uplift the image of Pakistan worldwide. He advised the Office Bearers and Managing Committee Members of Arts Council of Pakistan to contact the Police Chamber Liaison Cell operating at KCCI 24/7 for any help for their safety and security or in any law and order situation. Chamber can also facilitate the members of Arts Council to get arms licences for their safety, he added.
Acting President Shamim A. Firpo stated that the Arts Council of Pakistan is an eminent organization of Pakistan representing the intellectuals, writers and entrepreneurs of performing arts. Collectively KCCI and the Arts Council of Pakistan can do wonders in highlighting the real and positive image, culture and strengths of the Nation.
He stated that Pakistan’s image was distorted abroad due to its role as frontline State in the war against terrorism. Besides the economy was also bleeding due to internal and external threat which must be addressed while promoting trade and culture of Pakistan side by side. Vice President KCCI Nasir Mehmood and Managing Committee Members also exchanged their views.
The delegation of Arts Council of Pakistan was headed by its President Ahmed Shah accompanied by its Office Bearers and Managing Committee apprised their aims to promote the culture and performing arts of Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion Ahmed Shah apprised Chairman BMG Siraj Kassam Teli and Acting President Shamim A. Firpo that the precarious law and order situation was the most burning issue which requires immediate attention by the Government.
He stated Chairman BMG Siraj Kassam Teli represents the most vital stakeholder KCCI and he should play influential role to draw immediate attention of the Government to restore peace in Karachi. He said that nowadays the might was right and the powerful segments of the society deprived the citizens from the human rights. He lamented that the entrepreneurs who were committed to promote arts and culture were also facing severe threats to their lives and property, kidnapping for ransom and were receiving extortion chits with life threats.
He said in spite of the prevailing deteriorating law and order situation they were continuing their activities in the Arts Council of Pakistan and they were steadfast not to give up against the unscrupulous elements of the society.
He expressed his profound gratitude to the Chairman Businessmen Group for supporting his group in the elections of Arts Council. He proposed that like trend in the neighbouring country; the high-ups in Pakistan should the artists along with businessmen abroad to promote culture and trade together.
He appreciated that Acting President KCCI Shamim Firpo played a vital role in bonding together KCCI and the Arts Council of Pakistan for joint efforts for the larger interest of the Country. The members of Arts Council also shared their views in the meeting. He also registered confidence in the Chairmanship of Siraj Kassam Teli and stated that he always communicated the truth and real facts to the high-ups of the Government.
