KARACHI: Electric Supply Company has cut electricity supply to the residential colony of Karachi Water & Sewerage Board KWSB.

The supply was disconnected due to non-payment of bills, and the power utility despite sending notices to the government entity, did not receive any answer nor payment. KESC had also sent a final disconnection notice to KWSB back on the 20th of this month, but to no avail. However, after the KWSB failed to respond, KESC took the first step by disconnecting
electricity supply to the residential colony.

KWSB owes the power utility dues standing at Rs.23.5 billion and has been defaulting on its payment since quite some time. The irresponsibility showed by the KWSB should be questioned, as KESC cannot provide free electricity to anyone.

It is also important to mention that the Karachi Electric Supply Company had also issued final notices to the Sind Police and Karachi Municipal Corporation KMC for immediate payment of dues. These 02 major government entities owe KESC an accumulated amount of over Rs 2.7 billion.

KESC has also issued final disconnection notices to the Sind Police Department for payment of dues accumulating to Rs 1 billion and to the Karachi Municipal Cooperation KMC which has to pay dues in the tune of Rs 1.7 billion. KESC said that these public sector consumers PSC had been defaulting on payment for a long time forcing the hard pressed power utility to suffer great difficulties.
