KMC orders starting uplift works with immediate effectSeptember 4, 2013
KARACHI: KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro has said that reconstruction works of Korangi Causeway and repairing of various roads should start immediately so that problems being faced by citizens could be resolved.
He said this while chairing a meeting here on Wednesday in which construction and repairing of various roads, bridges and causeways after rains were reviewed. The meeting was attended by Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Chief Engineers of five districts, Executive Engineers and other relevant officers.
KMC Administrator directed to repair broken roads immediately and start construction of Korangi causeway. He said that residents of Korangi, Landhi, Malir and adjacent areas were facing inconvenience due to this broken road.
Administrator Karachi said construction works of this causeway should start from today and should be completed in next 15 to 20 days.
On this occasion Director General Engineering Department Niaz Ahmed Soomro during a briefing informed that Korangi Causeway, CBM Causeway and various roads of the city were broken in monsoon rains on which departmental work has started from today and repairing from Metropole to Sharae Faisal and Stadium Road has started. He informed that repairing of broken roads was being done through available machinery and resources of KMC so that KMC would not have to face any financial burden.
He also informed that Korangi Causeway was constructed with a cost of Rs8.7million last year. Garbage thrown into Malir drain by DMC East caused increase in water pressure and storm water changed its route due to which Korangi Causeway was affected and water might enter in nearest homes along with breaking of roads if storm water was not provided with declared route.
He said water thoroughfare in Malir drain along the road would also have to be cleaned and thousands tons of garbage would have to be shifted to landfill sites.
Administrator Karachi said that throwing of garbage in Malir drain would be bound and disciplinary action would be taken against violators. He said repairing of roads should be carried out on daily basis and concerned department should take action if complaints were received and a vehicle should remain available for this work on district level.
He said he would himself review these works and in this connection concerned departments would also inform him on daily basis.
