Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science & Technology Mr. Zahid Hamid visited National Physical & Standards Laboratory along with Federal Secretary, Ikhlaq Ahmed Tarar.

Director General NPSL, Mr. Shaheen Raja gave a comprehensive presentation about the objectives and activities being carried out by NPSL. He also emphasized the role of NPSL as a National Metrology Institute providing credible services to the Public & Private Sector.

The Minister evinced keen interest in the activities carried out by NPSL and ongoing project. He emphasized the need for revision of the PC1 of the BMR project to address the emerging needs and requirements.

While appreciating the services, NPSL is rendering, he emphasized upon the enhancement of test, calibration & measurement facilities for the customers and finalization of the NPSL business plan. He also desired to establish and maintain close liaison with the legal metrology departments for effective enforcement of measurement standards.

Federal Secretary urged the management of NPSL to immediately start visiting the industries and to increase the awareness. He quite vehemently stressed upon the need to raise the current volume of self generated fund, by revising the prevailing rates of services, and to start moving towards becoming the self sustained / financed organization.

At the end, Federal Minister and Secretary visited the new upgraded Physical Metrology Laboratories, including state of the art metrology labs and appreciated the services of NPSL for the promotion of industry, trade and exports.

Federal Minister assured the Government’s commitment to support the objectives of NPSL and to upgrade its existing testing and calibration infrastructure and facilities. The Chairman, PCSIR Dr. Shoukat Pervaiz and senior Officers of the organization were also present on the occasion.
