Lahore clinches National U16 title

Karachi: Lahore recovered twice to eventually beat Sialkot in the final and clinched the title of 2nd Motorway Police U16 Boys Hockey Championship on Tuesday at National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.

Sialkot took the lead early in the sixth minute when Faizan scored for the side. Sialkot maintained the 10 lead in the first half.

However, Shaan came to the rescue for the home side scoring equalizer in the 40th minute successfully converting a short penalty corner. Ali Raza once more put Sialkot 21 up in 57th minute through a short penalty corner.

It took only a minute for Lahore to produce the equalizer when Rana Sohail converted a short penalty corner in 58th minute. The regulation time ended with the score locked at 22.

However, Lahore as the team did it in the semifinals, displayed its supremacy in the penalty shootouts as three of its players – Shan, Adeel and skipper Afsar Yaqoob converted the penalty shoots while for Sialkot, only its skipper Nohaiz Zahid Malik could convert a penalty shoot.
Earlier in semifinals, Lahore defeated Faisalabad also in penalty shootouts.

Meanwhile, in the third place playoff encounter Faisalabad thrashed Multan recording a convincing 82 victory. Sohail scored four goals while Dawood scored three goals. Abu Bakar scored the eighth goal for Faisalabad. M. Adnan and Qaiser Zaman scored consolatory goals for Multan.
