Lahore survive Faisalabad scare to enter climax

Karachi: Lahore U16 hockey team recovered from four goals down to beat Faisalabad in semifinals on penalty shootout to secure its place in the summit clash of 2nd Motorway Police U16 Boy’s Hockey Championship on Monday at National Hockey Stadium in Lahore.

Faisalabad raced to 40 in the first 24 minutes after Dawood, Sohail, Mohsin, and Atiq scored one goal each to help their team put in commanding position.

However, Lahore came from behind after Awaisur Rehman stuck two goals in 34th and 55th minute and skipper Asfar Yaqoob scoring in 44th and 51st minute to level the arrears before the end of regulation time.

In penalty shootout, Lahore made the difference after skipper Asfar, Adeel and Rana Sohail converted their shootouts.

For Faisalabad, only Dawood and Mohsin could convert their respective chances.

Meanwhile, Sialkot defeated Multan by 42 score in the second semifinal. Skipper Nohaiz Zahid Malik, Mansoor, Waseem Akram and M. Arslan scored one goal each for the victors in the match. Shahbaz and Amir Sohail scored one each for Multan.

The final and third position matches will be played on Tuesday.
