Legendary Jahangir vows to keep on fighting for Squash’s berth in OlympicsSeptember 12, 2013
Karachi: Perhaps the most successful athlete ever, Pakistan’s legendary squash player Jahangir Khan on Thursday said that he would continue to fight for squash to see its deserving place in Olympics.
“Squash is a great sport and it deserves a spot in Olympics,” Jahangir said.
Jahangir Khan, who holds the record of winning most number of British Open titles ever, said that squash is a highly demanding sport and is played worldwide so it deserves a place in Olympics.
The 10times British Open Champion and six times World Champion Jahangir said that he and many of his counterparts throughout the world have been making diligent efforts to see squash secures its place in Olympics and the non-inclusion of the sport came as a big shock to him.
“I was shocked to hear that squash was not included in the Olympics 2020 fold and instead wrestling made the cut,” he said.
Jahangir also holds a record of winning 555 games consecutively, the longest winning streak by any athlete in top-level professional sports as recorded by Guinness World Records.
“Although we have been working hard to see squash make the cut for Olympics but the recent non-inclusion of squash has not deterred us and we would continue to make efforts for squash inclusion in later editions,” Jahangir said.
