Lower Sindh still faces water shortageJuly 14, 2013
Talhar, Sindh: The tailend areas of lower Sindh are still facing acute shortage of irrigation water despite pledges of provincial government to supply adequate water to save crops in this area.
Recently the provincial government has formed a committee to address the problem of water shortage in tail end areas of lower Sindh, but it did not took action against powerful landlords stealing water through illegal modules.
It is learnt that all landlords stealing water through illegal cuts and modules enjoy political patronage. Moreover, these landlords also bribe irrigation department officials and therefore no action is ever taken against them.
The growers of the tailend areas have demanded of the government to stop theft of irrigation water and ensure proper supply of canal water to the tailend farmlands.
