Islamabad: The Senate and National Assembly unanimously passed a resolution Friday expressing grief and sorrow over the sad demise of Nelson Mandela.
The resolution moved by Advisor on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said Pakistani people share the pain of South African people over the death of great leader who is revered as icon of true democracy. It said Pakistan wishes the South African people to bear this irreparable loss with courage and fortitude.
Applauding the services of Nelson Mandela for democracy and human rights‚ the resolution said Nelson Mandela was the person who stood for the rights‚ honour and dignity of oppressed people.
It said Pakistan has been at the forefront to dismantle the apartheid and Nelson Mandela appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in this regard. Nelson Mandela twice visited Pakistan and during his second visit he also addressed the joint sitting of the Parliament.
The resolution said that the great South African leader will continue to live in the hearts and minds of Pakistani people.
The House also offered Fateha for the departed soul of former MNA Ameer Haider Kazmi.
Rising on a point of order‚ Leader of the Opposition Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah and Mahmood Khan Achakzai while paying tributes to Nelson Mandela said the South African leader was a role model for democracy and politics of reconciliation. They requested the chair to adjourn the proceedings of the House today in honour of the great South African leader.
Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Shaikh Aftab Ahmad also supported the opposition’s demand and said it will send a good message to the democratic forces of the world.
Meanwhile, the Senate also passed a unanimous resolution paying rich tributes to Nelson Mandela for his tireless efforts for promotion of democracy and his services to humanity.

Earlier speaking on a point of order‚ different members paid rich tributes to Nelson Mandela for promotion of democratic norms and politics in the world. They said that through truth and reconciliation he joined the two nations into one.
They said the struggle and contribution of Nelson Mandela for democracy is a beacon for the democratic forces of the world.
The Senators said the people of Pakistan are with the South African people in this great loss.
The members said that Nelson Mandela was an icon of democracy whose influence is spread over two centuries. They said the Nelson Mandela will be remembered long as a great politician and for his service to the humanity. They said he was the man of tremendous courage who changed the course of history.

The House also observed one minute silence to pay homage to Nelson Mandela. The House also offered Dua for the departed soul of Nelson Mandela.
