SIALKOT: As many as 200 small and medium surgical instruments manufacturing units have been closed by their owners due to stoppage of the gas supply to surgical industry of Sialkot by the government.
Expressing grave concern over this situation, several perturbed surgical instruments vendors, manufacturers and industrialists said that they had no option but to close down their small surgical units due to non-availability of the gas, in a bid to avert further financial crisis.
The hundreds of the daily waged industrial workers and labourers of these affected industrial units were being terminated from their jobs by the owners as well.
Talking to the newsmen here , Chairman Surgical Instruments Manufacturers and Exporters Association of Pakistan (SIMAP) Fazal Jilani said that the Sialkot’s surgical industry was also being hit badly by the stoppage of gas by the government.
He said that closure of the gas supply to surgical industry of Sialkot was badly affecting as many as 1000 small and medium surgical instruments manufacturing units in Sialkot city and its surrounding areas.
He feared that there would be 20 to 25 percent decline in surgical instruments exports from Sialkot-Pakistan during this month. He demanded of the immediate restoration of the gas supply to the country’s industrial sector in a bid to keep the industrial wheel moving ahead towards the goal of national economical growth stability.
