Missing woman case: SHC summons home secretary, SSP

Karachi: Sindh High Court SHC on Thursday directed the home secretary and the SSP Sukkur to appear before it in a missing case of a woman who is stated to have been killed after being declared ‘Kari’ for contracting marriage without the permission of her family.

A single bench headed by Justice Hasan Azhar Rizvi expressed dissatisfaction over the report of SSP Sukkur filed by police officials regarding the recovery of a young woman and rejected it.

The petitioners Zamiran Bibi and Anwar Ali who married on June 26 in Thatta had earlier moved the court seeking protection. The couple had also moved the court seeking quashment of FIR lodged by woman’s father, Hadi Bukhsh Soomro, against Anwar Ali for kidnapping Zamiran. The court had also directed the police for providing protection to couple.

While the petition was still pending disposal, the freewill woman was kidnapped allegedly by her father and other relatives on July 14 in Thatta and a kidnapping case was also lodged against her father and others.

Anwer informed the court that his wife had been killed by her family members after being declared Kari or to be killed in the name of honour.

During the previous hearing, the bench had called for a report and directed the respondent police officials to make efforts for the recovery of the woman and produce her in the court on Aug 5 – the next date of hearing.
