MNA, MPAs hold open katchehri

KARACHI: Newly elected Member of National Assembly Rehan Hashmi and Members of Provincial Assembly Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and Khuwaja Izharul Hasan along with Managing Director Karachi Water & Sewerage Board KWSB Misbahuddin Farid in an open Katchehri spoke to the residents of Paposh Nagar and adjoining areas in order to find out the water and sewerage problems resident of Paposh Nagar are facing and find swift solutions.

Residents of Paposh Nagar and adjoining areas participated in the session in large numbers whereas; orders for immediate action were issued to Deputy Managing Director TS, Chief Engineers and Superintendent Engineer who were also present on the occasion.

On this occasion Elected Representatives Rehan Hashmi, Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and Khuwaja Izhar ul drawing M.D KW&SB’s attention towards public problems stated that residents of these areas are facing severe water shortage and the current supply is muddy/contaminated and leakages have been found on several spots. They said that these issued must be attendant on immediate basis and valve operations must strictly be monitored.

Elected Representatives Rehan Hashmi, Abdul Rauf Siddiqui and Khuwaja Izhar ul Hasan stated that Officers working in these areas are responsible for ensuring swift provision of facilities to the residents and resolve shortage problems as they arise. They said that being the Elected Representatives it is our responsibility to ensure that residents of areas who elected us receive swift facilities therefore the problems must be resolved immediately.

MPA Abdul Rauf Siddiqui stated that it is KW&SB’s responsibility and utmost priority to ensure swift water supply and Elected Representatives would fully cooperate with them in this regard. MPA Khuwaja Izharul Hasan stated that schedule must be maintained and tail end areas must be catered.

M.D KW&SB Misbahuddin Farid on public complaints strictly questioned the concerned officers and directed that these areas must be provided with fair supply on priority basis, valve operations must be monitored to ensure swift supply. He said that Electricity Load shedding is one of the major reasons for water shortage in these areas however KW&SB is striving to ensure swift provision of supply despite 400 million gallons of difference in supply and demand.

He said that water supply and sewerage lines have been weakened since they are quite old causing leakages and overflow throughout the city and in order to ensure better provision of facilities it is vital that parallel lines are laid along with existing lines.

He directed distribution officers to fulfil their duties with honesty, furthermore he directed DMD TS to personally monitor the supply and resolve the problem identified during the open session. They must use their experience and to formulate a comprehensive strategy. M.D KW&SB directed that a focal person for these areas must be posted who would be responsible to resolve all public problems in these areas.

Later on, he took strict notice of water theft from 33 inch line to Malir through valves. He said that this valve is for ensuring supply to residents of Malir therefore it must be secured by Lock and Key system to ensure that only KW&SB officers may operate the valve.
