MQM’s ex-MPA Nadeem Hashmi arrested

KARACHI: The former Member of Provincial Assembly MPA of Muttahida Qaumi Movement MQM Nadeem Hashmi was arrested by Haidery police in the wee hours of Wednesday in connection with the murder of two policemen.

Haidery police said Hashmi was detained only for investigation into killing of the two policemen and had been kept at unknown destination. The Haidery police said that they had registered an FIR No.181/2013 under section 302, section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act, 34 and for snatching official arms under section 397 against unidentified people.

The former MQM MPA was arrested last night in connection with firing on a police mobile in which two policemen Iqbal Arif and Muhammad Ali were killed on the spot near Landi Kotal Chowrangi in North Nazimabad.

Following the arrest of Ex-MPA violence erupted in city and also in other parts of Sindh province. The protestors’ burnt tyres, blocking roads for traffic and causing public transport to vanish from the city’s roads. The protests were also held in Hyderabad, Sukkur, Mirpurkhas and other cities across the province against the arrest.
