NA: Iraq ambassador asks Govt. support in reconstruction of Iraq

Islamabad: Ambassador of Iraq Mr. Rushdi Mahmood Rasheed has asked for the support of the Government of Pakistan in reconstruction of Iraq. He said that there was immense untapped economic potential in his country which needs to be exploited for the mutual benefit of the both the countries. He stated this while talking to Speaker, National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq in Parliament House on Tuesday.

The Speaker said that Pakistan considers Iraq its brother and was keen to strengthen its bonds through enhancing parliamentary as well as economic ties. He said that Pakistan has huge Human Resource potential that could be deployed in Iraq to undertake reconstruction activities.

He assured the Ambassador for Pakistan’s allout support for the rebuilding of the brotherly country for which he would use his good offices to take up the issue at appropriate level. He asked that Pakistani medical personnel, engineers, educationists and skilled labour has been internationally acclaimed and were working in various parts of the world. He asked the Ambassador to explore the possibilities of joint ventures by Pakistani and Iraqi business communities in diverse fields i.e. agriculture, oil refining, industrial production, infrastructure development, education and health sectors.

The Ambassador of Iraq, acknowledging the sentiments of the Speaker and said that Iraq also considers Pakistan one of its close friend and economic partner. He said that law and order situation in Iraq has largely improved and the government was actively pursuing the reconstruction and rehabilitation process. He said that his country was keen in importing human resource from Pakistan besides other industrial products, medical equipment and agricultural products. He said that parliamentary relations between both the countries would induce impetus to strengthening of existing bilateral relations. The Ambassador also felicitated him on assuming the office of Speaker National Assembly.

Later, Ambassador of France Mr. Philippe Thiebaud called on Speaker National Assembly. Talking to the French envoy, the Speaker thanked him for carrying a felicitation message by his French counterpart and asked to reciprocate his good wishes to Speaker French National Assembly. The Speaker expressed his satisfaction over the cordial relations between two countries, however, suggested to enhance momentum through interaction between French and Pakistani parliamentarians.

He also thanked the French support for Pakistan at EU forum and infrastructure development in post disasters era. The Ambassador of France thanked the Speaker for his kind words and said that France also gives importance of Pakistan and would continue its support at regional and international forums. He said that his country would continue its collaboration with Pakistan in diverse fields through public-private partnership. He agreed for enhancing parliamentary ties between legislatures of both the countries.
