Lahore: Punjab caretaker Chief Minister, Najam Sethi, called on the Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, at Mansoora on Thursday. Syed Munawar Hasan, received the care taker CM at the JI headquarters. They discussed matters of mutual interest and the next general elections.
Naib Ameer, JI, Ch. Muhammad Aslam Saleemi and deputy Secretary General JI Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, and other leaders were also present.
Later, talking to media, Syed Munawar Hasan, said that the caretaker Chief Minister had been assigned an important task. He said the foremost duty of the care taker Chief Minister and his cabinet was to ensure fair and transparent elections under the guidance of the Election Commission. He said that the JI would extend every possible assistance to the government if it so desired.
Najam Sethi told newsmen on the occasion that his first priority was to conduct impartial elections in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission. The caretaker Chief Minister said that his cabinet would be small and have only five or six people. He further said that he would reshuffle the administration all over the province within a week, and added that he would try his best to come up to the expectations of the people of the Punjab.
Syed Munawar Hasan said that the confidence of the care taker Chief Minister had given a hope that he would hold impartial elections. However, he said that, it was basically the responsibility of the political parties to ensure that the elections were reliable and to the satisfaction of the nation. He said if the political parties nominated only those people who fulfilled the conditions laid down under articles 62 and 63 of the constitution, and strictly observed the constitution and the law, the elections could be made meaningful.
