Peshawar: Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Thursday assured the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Public Health Engineering, Information and PR Shah Farman that the five union councils of Koh-e-Daman on the border of Dara Adam Khel, FR Kohat and Peshawar will be specially treated and provided natural gas on exceptional basis. It was also assured that those having been provided gas connections on irregular basis will be provided gas meters on exceptional basis bypassing the turn out procedure.

The Provincial Minister who is elected MPA from PK10 where the areas of the five union councils of Shera Kera, Adezai, Mattanai, Azakhiel and Maryamzai are situated, called on the Federal Minister in his chamber at the Parliament House and briefed him in detail on the problems of the people of the area particularly the scarcity of energy and power like gas and electricity.

Shah Farman pointed out that the area was so hard hit by militancy and terrorism that it had virtually become a no go area
for the people while on the other hand the largest number of suicide and targeted attacks in the province took place there due to which it had been included into FATA while making surveys for the rehabilitation.

He said the area was close to lower districts of KP having resources of gas like Kohat and Karak but when the SNGPL authorities were lying a gas pipeline for Tarnab which had to pass through this area, they ignored the area due to which the residents of the area resorted to protest demonstration, roads blockades thus created a law and order situation even in the provincial capital.

The Minister pointed out that later on the government, the SNGPL Authorities and the local administration entered into a written agreement copy of which was shown to the Federal Minister, that the people of the area would be provided gas from the said pipeline on priority basis.

The Federal Minister said that though prime minister had stopped giving funds to such development like giving gas supply but in this case he would ask the OGRA to make some special arrangements so that gas supply to the said area was made possible.

Shah Farman also invited the attention of the Federal Minister to the gas connections provided by the SNGPL authorities during the previous government. He said those families had no gas meters in their houses now. He said that each of those families had then properly deposited Rs.20,000/ for each connection on which Khaqan Abbasi assured that those people would be provided gas meters on priority basis.

With regard to inflated bills of electricity, Shah Farman asked the Federal Minister to direct WAPDA/PESCO authorities to stop the supply of illegal electricity connections to big thieves like factory owners and transferring the same burden to the domestic consumers.
