Karachi: Prevention is better than cure is a multidimensional proverb applied everywhere and in all circumstances. Timely preventive action can minimize loses, said speakers of awareness session arranged by Pakistan Red Crescent Society Sindh Provincial Branch’s Youth & Volunteer Department at a local school.

They said for adequate preparedness is necessary to face any possible earthquake or other disasters. Reacting promptly and safely reduces chances of being injured. In case of earthquake when once the shaking stops, schools should be prepared to implement prearranged, earthquake specific emergency response and recovery plans. Students and staff must keep in mind that aftershocks may strike at any time; exacerbating hazards created by earlier shaking and requiring that everyone again drop, cover, and hold on.

Atif Hussain Youth Volunteer Officer, Akhter Adil Disaster Management Manager, S.M. Kashif Ali Emergency Response Officer, Mohammad Saleem ERT Team Leader and others spoke.
