NIE MINISTER FOR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY VISITS NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONICSJuly 18, 2013
Islamabad: Federal Minister for Science and Technology, Zahid Hamid has said that efforts at all levels have to be made for the promotion of Science and Technology and its projects should be result oriented and productive for the people. The Minister stated this during visit to the National Institute of Electronics NIE here Thursday.
Director General NIE, Zafar Iqbal Khokhar, briefed the Minister on the organizational structure, objectives, achievements and issues related to the organization.
The Minister said that at present planners, policy makers and other government functionaries had to start realizing the importance of Technology based knowledge economy and its implementation in the country.
The Minister stressed that the developed products/R & D products should be commercialized through public-private manufacturing sectors. He showed keen interest in energy efficient LED lights produced in NIE. He made a special reference to the Government of Punjab’s initiative to introduce such LED based street lights in the major cities of the province.
Earlier the Minister visited various labs of the institute, including power electronics lab, communication lab, pilot production lab of electronic products, PCB fabrication facilities and quality testing lab. The minister also visited the Technology centre of National Electronic Complex NECOP, a joint project executed by NIE and NESCOM with Technical and financial assistance of China.
The Minister appreciated the efforts made by the employees of this Institute for bringing the essential building blocks of any production unit comprising of R &D Labs, PCB fabrication, production line and testing facility into practical shape. He encouraged the Institute to come up with more meaningful and intensified achievements in the areas of indigenous technology development and product development.
He suggested NIE to make joint ventures with National & International partners to increase the production capacity and meet the demands of quality conscious markets.
Secretary, Science and Technology, Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar was also present in the briefing.
