Nine killed, 15 injured in bomb attack on SHC judge in Karachi

Karachi: At least nine persons including five policemen and two Rangers’ personnel were killed and fifteen others including a senior judge of Sindh High Court were injured in a blast at Burns Road area in the vicinity of Sindh secretariat, the provincial government headquarters on Wednesday morning.

A police official at the spot, Imran, told PPI that the bomb, planted in a motorbike, was detonated via a remote control by the miscreants soon after the car of the SHC Judge took a turn towards the road leading to Sindh High Court.

The police official opined that terrorists targeted the vehicle of senior Judge of Sindh High Court Justice Maqbool Baqar with a remote controlled bomb. A car (AC 8385), three police vans (SP 3164, SP 3662 and SP 3585) and a bike were destroyed in explosion. The blast also caused damage to nearby buildings.

The bodies and injured were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi and Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for autopsy and treatment respectively. Justice Maqbool was rushed to Aga Khan Hospital.

The deceased policemen and Rangers personnel were identified as Nasir Zaman, Jamil Ahmed, Laeeq Ahmed, Khalid Mehmood, Zia Mohammad, Abdul Qayyum and Ashraf. The other deceased include driver of the judge, Saleem Mundra and gunmen, Amjad Mehmood.

The injured were identified as Justice Maqbool Baqar, Asim Raza, Syed Zahid, Ramesh, Salman, Taqi Raza, Talat Mehmood, Ghani, Imran Ali, Arif, Nazir Ahmed, Junaid, Ameer Hassan, Haleema and Suraiya.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack.
