No stipend paid to many BBSYDP trainees at CHKSeptember 2, 2013
Karachi: A large number of youngsters recently completed one year training under Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Program BBSYDP in Civil Hospital Karachi CHK have not received stipends even they have completed the course.
The trainees who have completed one year training recently in different departments of CHK have yet to get monthly stipends Rs 2500 per month, as announced before the start of BBSYDP Program. These trainees belonging to different cities and towns of Sindh and Karachi have shown their frustration over government behaviour for not releasing their stipends.
Ali, a trainee technician in emergency ward, told PPI that he has completed training under BBSYDP, but not a single penny was received by him in the head of stipend and he incurred all his expenses from his pocket. He informed that he belongs to interior Sindh and living in Karachi in miserable condition due to non-payment of stipend.
Another technician, said that he had completed the training under BBSYDP Program in year 2012 in CHK and received Rs 2500 stipend every month. He said that trainees of the 2013 batch are, however, deprived of their stipend.
Project Director BBSYDP Dr Muhammad Sabir Memon, when contacted said due to the late release of funds from the provincial government, the monthly stipends were not paid to trainees of BBSYDP. However, he said now the funds have been release and monthly stipend amount is credited to the bank accounts of trainees all over Sindh. He said some of trainees had already received stipend and other will it get within a week.
He informed that BBSYDP program has initiated various courses for youth. About the health related courses he said about 4182 trainees have completed the one year training on 31st August 2013 in different hospitals of Sindh in 17 different categories of healthcare.
It was pertinent to mention here that the BBSYDP Program was initiated in the year 2008 which has trained the educated, semiliterate and uneducated youth aged from 18 to 35 years in different sectors with an objective to facilitate them for employment and curtail poverty.
This Program is designed to address the poverty and unemployment of youth by imparting them skilled trainings in the employable trades; viewing the dire need of society to develop quality human resource through a strategic and focused program to raise the economy of province in specific and country in general leading to a prosperous Pakistan.
