No threats to barrages including Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri: Federal Minister Water & PowerSeptember 9, 2014
Islamabad: Federal Minister Water & Power Khawaja Asif told the joint sitting of the parliament that 750,000 cusecs water would pass through Trimmu headworks and 100 feet breach has already been made on left side to reduce pressure on the headworks.
He said that it could inundate vast areas but it was done only to avert big destruction of Trimmu headworks.
The minister said that there were no threats to the barrages including Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri as the flood water would be in limit of barrages designs.
Sharing updates of recent floods, he told that 66 people have lost their lives while 109 sustain injuries in rain related incidents in Azad Kashmir.
He said that the flood also affected 120 villages, 625 kilometre roads, 15 bridges, water supply schemes and telephone infrastructure in the valley.
The minister said that eleven people were perished in land sliding incidents in various districts of Gilgit-Baltistan and 22 sustained injuries.
