Notorious tradition of Karo-Kari: 86 killed in Larkana division this yearJuly 26, 2013
RATODERO: As many as 86 persons have been killed in five districts of Larkana division from 1st January to 23rd July 2013 on the pretext of Karo-Kari (honour killing). These districts include Qambar-Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Larkana. The victims were 65 females and 21 males. Police record showed 76 cases were registered in which 237 people were involved and nominated as accused but only 56 of them were arrested and 70 challans presented in the respective courts and six challan were yet be presented in the respective courts.
One challan of Larkana police is pending with police and two cases each of Shikarpur and Jacobabad districts police are pending with them as they have not so far submitted these challans in the respective court. One case of Shikarpur district is untraceable. No fake case has been registered and two cases have been disposed off in Shikarpur and Kashmore districts, reliable police sources told PPI.
As many as five cases are still in pending with police out of which one is in Larkana, two in Shikarpur and two in Jacobabad district. Two males and five females were killed in Larkana district, and one male and six females in Qambar, seven males and 18 females were killed in Shikarpur, 10 males and 16 females in Jacobabad district and one man and 20 women in Kashmore district of upper Sindh. Out of 237 nominated accused only 56 have been taken to task and 181 are still absconding which shows the poor performance of the concerned police stations of Larkana division.
In Larkana district 6 cases were registered involving 9 accused out of which only five were arrested and 9 are still at large. In Qambar seven cases are registered involving 21 accused but only seven have been brought to justice. In Shikarpur 21 cases have been registered in which 66 accused were nominated but only 10 have been taken to task so far. In Jacobabad 21
cases were registered against 66 accused but only 16 have been arrested and in Kashmore 21 cases were lodged against 75 accused but police has so been successful to arrest only 18 accused which is enough proof that the police is either under severe political pressure or its morale has fallen down to almost zero level.
Present Sindh government of PPP, which is enjoying second consecutive five-year term, will have to take foolproof measures to re-energize the Sindh police, leaving behind their old reigning tactics, otherwise history would never pardon them for establishing unprecedented bad governance as Sindh province is already facing feudal & tribal disputes, poverty, unemployment
have already crippled life specially in upper Sindh and lawlessness will certainly break the bones of those poor people who cannot even afford one time meal.
