OCA has taken a one-sided decision: Akram SahiSeptember 11, 2013
Karachi: Muhammad Akram Sahi, President of government backed Pakistan Olympic Association POA on Wednesday said that the action taken by the Olympic Council of Asia OCA is one sided and without any justification.
The OCA has recently suspended Akram-led POA and two other top officials for running a parallel POA body, which has destabilize Olympic movement in Pakistan.
“The elections of the POA were held under the supervision of the Judiciary on July 5, 2013 in the light of the decisions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and the Lahore High Court Lahore,” Akram said.
However, Akram although giving weight to the decision of OCA now, has previously said they were not affiliated to OCA and therefore there was no consequence of the suspension.
“By giving a decision against the legally elected members of the POA, it seems that either OCA is unaware of the decision of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and Lahore High Court Lahore or it has been decided not to show any respect for these decisions,” he said.
Muhammad Akram Sahi further said that the newly elected body of the POA moved into the Olympic House in a very peaceful manner and no untoward incident occurred at any time.
“No items have been removed and the secretariat of the POA is functioning there smoothly. Olympic House is the property of legal elected body of POA and not of any individual person,” he said.
“We are in constant touch with the OCA, IOC and other international organizations and we are trying to bring to their knowledge the factual position regarding the affairs of the POA and we are confident that the things will be straighten out in due course of time,” he said.
Before OCA suspension, IOC has also issued a warning to Pakistan for having a parallel Olympic body, backed by the government, which was against the Olympic Charter of IOC. It has also stressed that the IOC recognizes Arif Hasan as the only legitimate head of POA.
