OIC affirms support for international efforts for peace in Yemen

Riyadh Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr. Youssef Al-Othaimeen met recently in Riyadh, with UN Envoy on Yemen Martin Griffith.

The OIC secretary general congratulated Griffith on the assumption of office as UN Envoy for Yemen and assured him of the OIC’s full support to his efforts in favor of evolving a permanent political solution to the Yemeni crisis in accordance with the GCC initiative and its executive mechanisms, the Yemeni national dialogue, and the relevant UN Security Council’s resolutions.

Al-Othaimeen stressed the OIC’s dedicated commitment in support of Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity, stability, and security.

The two parties exchanged views on the political and humanitarian situation in Yemen. On his part, Griffith expressed his pleasure at receiving the OIC chief, this being, as he noted, his first meeting with an official dignitary representing an international organization since he took office as the UN envoy on Yemen. At the end of the meeting, the two parties laid emphasis on the importance of coordination and consultations and active participation between the OIC General Secretariat and the UN Envoy’s Office on Yemen towards attaining a political solution to the Yemeni crisis.
