Oman’s Minister of Information Dr. Abdul Munim bin Mansour al-Hasani will visit Beijing Sunday to participate in the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations between Oman and China, as well as the unveiling of the plaque of the Sohar Vessel Memorial in the famous Chinese city of Guangzhou.

The Omani-Sino Media and Cultural Festival includes many media, cultural, artistic and musical events, which last for several days. It reflects the importance of these relations at present and in the future.

The Omani-Sino relations have been characterized by their depth and a history spanning several centuries. Chinese documents have estimated them for about 2,000 years.

These relations were always based on many common points between the Omani and Chinese civilizations, given the fact that Omanis were the first Arab sailors and traders to reach the shores of China. These points include the peace-loving spirit and human communication among peoples, in addition to their belief in the importance of dialogue, understanding, mutual respect and desire to promote common interests.

The diplomatic relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the People’s Republic of China, which were established 40 years ago, have developed steadily to achieve much growth and prosperity for the two friendly countries and peoples in many areas.

On 25 May 2018, which marked the 40th anniversary of Omani-Sino diplomatic relations, Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and President Xi Jinping decided to establish the strategic partnership between the two countries. This was seen as a culmination of the continued development of these long-standing relationships, and a push for the efforts to achieve development and common prosperity, as well as giving priority to cooperation between Muscat and Beijing in all aspects of coordination in bilateral relations and regional and international issues of mutual interest.

This means developing the mechanisms, means and fields of cooperation between the two countries and the active Omani participation in the projects related to the “Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)” launched by the Chinese president in 2013, with an aim to establish new railway connections between Europe and Asia to revive the great Silk Road. In addition to the full implementation of the complementary advantages of the two countries in economy, trade, industry, traditional and renewable energy, scientific research, culture, tourism, media, youth, sports and other fields that would achieve more prosperity for the two countries and their friendly peoples.
