Pakistan has made an additional contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Maleeha Lodhi has affirmed.

Speaking on the occasion at the Pakistani Mission to the UN, Ambassador Lodhi said she had handed over the country’s additional contribution to UNRWA Commissioner-General Pierre KrAhenbuhl. She noted that this was done on the instructions of the government of Pakistan, and in accordance with the wishes and aspirations of the people.

The people of Pakistan have always stood by their Palestinian brothers and sisters, Lodhi said, pointing out that the assistance will help UNRWA continue its relief efforts on the ground and keep the schools and clinics open.

This additional contribution comes at a critical time as the Agency is facing a financial predicament after the United States UNRWA’s largest single donor ceased to continue its support.
