Pakistan has objections over design of 4 hydroelectric projects by India: NA toldMarch 7, 2014
Islamabad: Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Riaz Hussain Pirzada Friday said Pakistan has objected to India over the design of four hydroelectric projects initiated during the last five years in violation of the design criteria of the Indus Water Treaty.
Responding to a question during question hour in the National Assembly on behalf of Minister for Water and Power‚ he said objections to Ratle‚ Miyar‚ Lower Kalnai and Pakal Dul on Chenab River were discussed in two meetings of permanent Indus commission last year and will further be discussed in the meeting of the commission next month.
To another question‚ he said about 30 million acre feet of water is wasted annually in the country due to lack of sufficient storage capacity.
He said the government started two solar power plants of 50 megawatt each at Bahawalpur Solar Park.
Riaz Hussain Pirzada told the House that there is proposal to open additional utility stores which would create five thousand more employment opportunities.
Minister of State for Religious Affairs Pir Aminul Hasnat told the House that under the new Hajj Policy‚ it has been decided to fly 50 percent intending Hujjaj each to Makkah Mukarramah and Madina Munawarah.
Earlier‚ the National Assembly was informed that a National Agricultural and Food Security Policy is being finalized envisaging increased productivity.
The House was told that 60 percent Pakistanis are facing food scarcity and a number of measures are being taken for food availability.
These include development and promotion of new high yielding various crops and fruit varieties‚ supply of farm inputs‚ dissemination of good agricultural practices‚ availability of more credit and stabilization of fertilizer prices.
To another question‚ the House was told that there is a proposal to formulate a National Population Policy Framework.
This would serve as guidelines for provinces to devise their policies and strategies in line with the spirit of the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
