KARACHI: KMC Administrator Saqib Ahmed Soomro has directed Engineering Department to complete construction works of Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Terminal in two months so that shifting of oil tankers from Shireen Jinnah Colony, Clifton and other areas could start whereas along with security arrangements other problems would be resolved with mutual coordination of all stakeholders. This important project after its completion would be beneficial for the city.

He said this while talking to officials and members of various organizations of oil tankers during a visit to Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal on Tuesday. On this occasion Deputy Commissioner Malir Qazi Jan Muhammad, Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro, Project Director Ansar Zaidi and other officers were present.

Administrator Karachi Saqib Ahmed Soomro said that 74 percent construction works of Phase-I of Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal has been completed whereas other works including construction of boundary wall, prayer area, ablution area and 128 bathrooms would be completed in two months. Drainage system was also being installed. Water connection has been provided and electricity supply work was underway.

He said completion of this project would reduce heavy traffic on city roads and traffic flow would improve. This combined project was being completed with the collaboration of Government of Pakistan, Government of Sindh, KMC and Oil Companies. Administrator Karachi said the orders issued by Supreme Court would be implemented and no one would be allowed to disobey those orders.

He said allotment of shops would be given through a draw. The alternative roads would be constructed for transportation of oil tankers as well. He said that tankers could be parked on 60 acre land of terminal right now. The terminal was being constructed with a cost of Rs313million.

He said 2375 oil tankers could be parked on Zulfiqarabad Oil Tankers Terminal at a time whereas the facility of infrastructure for 10 thousand people was available. He said Zulfiqarabad Oil Terminal consists of 150 acre land which comprises of 120 acre parking area and 30 acre service area in which bank, restaurants, medical stores and other facilities would be provided.

On this occasion Director General Technical Services Niaz Ahmed Soomro informed that 75 percent amount has been received for this project. Shades on 21600 square feet have been made whereas more shades were being made on 7600 square feet. Carpeting work of roads going out of terminal along with underground and overhead tanks and levelling and dressing work of 90 acre land have also been completed.
