Karachi: Pakistan took 2-1 lead in the Davis Cup tie after winning the doubles match on the second day of Davis Cup Asia Oceania Group II on Saturday in Vietnam. Aqeel Khan pairing with Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi defeated Linh Giang Trinh and Quoc Khanh Le of Vietnam in a four set match 6-1, 6-1, 6-7(5), 6-2. Pakistani pair displayed the quality tennis and won the first two sets without facing much resistance.
But in the third set, Vietnam put tough fight and pulled one to make it 1-2. However, Aqeel and Aisam duo pulled the fourth set to seal the victory.
On the third day of the tie on Sunday, Aqeel Khan will face Vietnam No.1 Thien Nguyen Hoang in the first revise singles. Meanwhile, doubles’ specialist Aisam-ul-Haq will also be playing singles match.
Pakistan is now leading the tie 2-1 after winning the doubles encounter. Earlier, Aqeel won his singles match while Mohammad Abid lost his match on Friday.
