Palestinian cause a top priority agenda for Arab Information Ministers’ meeting: Al-ShabanahJuly 16, 2019
Saudi Arabia’s Media Minister Turki bin Abdullah Al-Shabanah stressed the importance of the topics on the agenda of the 11th Session of the Executive Office of the Arab Information Ministers Council kicked off Tuesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo.
Today’s meeting is a continuation of efforts to develop the joint Arab media work, to be commensurate with the magnitude of the challenges faced by the Arab nation, as well as to ensure coordination of Arab media efforts to raise the level of awareness among peoples and to formulate an influential Arab, regional and international media discourse, Al-Shabbanah said in his opening speech of the meeting being held at the General Secretariat headquarters of the Arab Information Ministers Council.
He noted that the Palestinian cause is on top of the items to be discussed today, given its centrality to the Arab nation, stressing the importance of the Arab media role in covering the events in the Palestinian territories and giving the Palestinian news the necessary media space, so as to inform the world of the just Palestinian demands, especially the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Saudi minister also indicated that the 4th edition of the Media Excellence Award for the Arab Media Day will be launched under the theme “Al-Quds in the eyes of the media”, due to the importance of media work in highlighting what Jerusalem represents for the Arab nation.
He drew attention that the meeting will discuss, in the fourth item, the implementation of the Arab League resolutions adopted at the summit and ministerial levels. The resolutions demand the ministries of information or media bodies in the member states to implement the five points contained in the Arab Declaration under the title “Supporting Arab Action to Eliminate Terrorism”, especially the call to refrain from standing neutral when covering terrorist incidents, as well as to deal with them as an aggression against the state and society, and focus on their negative effects on development.
