PESA to Guard Churches Free of Cost on SundaysSeptember 24, 2013
Rawalpindi: All members of the Pakistan Ex Servicemen Association PESA are deeply shocked at the most dastardly terrorist attack on a church in Peshawar on September 22, 2013 and condemn it unequivocally. Tragically, this crime against humanity was committed in the name of Islam whereas it is a blatant act of blasphemy and was committed in gross violation of the Holy Quran and teachings of Prophet Muhammad PBUH.
A PESA release here on Tuesday said: “In a message to the monks of Saint Catherine’s Monastery, Mount Sinai http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Catherine%27s_Monastery,_Mount_Sinai, the Prophet PBUH showed his high regard for Christians and said: ‘Verily, I defend them by myself, the servants, the helpers, and my followers, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be changed from their jobs, nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims’ houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God’s covenant and disobey His Prophet’.”
The Meesaq-e-Madinah and the Holy Prophet’s last sermon also serve as injunctions about treatment of religious minorities.
The Peshawar incident took place due to security lapses therefore PESA has decided to help further boost security of churches, particularly during service on Sundays.
PESA President Lt Gen Retd Ali Kuli Khan has tasked the Group, which has largest number of ex servicemen serving its two private security companies, to provide security free of cost on Sundays to all churches in Pakistan. All these ex servicemen who will guard the churches are members of PESA. Brig Retd Simon Sharaf, will be the PESA Coordinator at all these churches.
While PESA will continue to do its best for the security and wellbeing of the people of Pakistan, it urges upon the government to ensure that the culprits are dealt with an iron hand.
It is also very sad that no one responsible for the Gojra massacre or Badami Bagh looting and arson has been apprehended so far, said the release.
