Pipeline blast near Larkana suspends gas supply to three districts

Ratodero, Sindh: A powerful blast damaged high pressure Sui gas pipeline near Talbani Laro in the limits of Rasheed Wagan police station, Larkana in the wee hours of Wednesday, suspending supply of gas to Larkana, Kambar-Shahdadkot and parts of Shikarpur district.

SHO Rasheed Wagan PS Nadir Mugheri told media that the damaged pipeline is located some 10 kilometres from Larkana city. He said it is 18 inch diameter pipeline linked to Karachi. He said the blast took place at about 3.00am. The bomb disposal squad rushed at the site and after inspection said a time device was used with 7kilogram explosive material. He said that approximately 40 feet section of the pipeline was damaged. The SSGC technical staff and engineers have already started repairing it.

Regional Manager SSGC Larkana Fayyaz Shaikh told media that their engineering teams consisting of 50 people from Karachi and Shikarpur has arrived and is busy in repair work, adding hopefully the gas supply will be restored soon.

SSP Larkana Syed Peer Muhammad Shah said he suspects that a banned nationalist outfit is involved in the blast and soon the culprits would be arrested.

SSGC sources said that about 70 to 80 feet pipeline has been damaged which is located on the Indus right bank side. It may also be mentioned here that an oil pipeline is also passing nearby but fortunately it was not hit.

Due to non-supply of gas since morning people of the affected areas suffered a lot. Many people were seen purchasing firewood for cooking purposes.

The gas company has sustained huge losses due to the blast, said sources.
